The PE & Sport Premium for primary schools was introduced by the government to improve physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the three academic years 2013 to 2016.

Competitive Sports

  • To fund football training for Years 5 & 6 boys and girls
  • To fund coaching for athletics, cricket and netball competitions

  • To plan events across the academic year to enhance health and fitness e.g. Health & Fitness Week.

PE Coaches/Teachers

  • To continue to cover all aspects of the PE curriculum including games, dance, swimming and gymnastics using trained external coaches and teachers
  • To continue athletics, netball and team games into the PE curriculum
  • To continue gymnastics into Reception PE curriculum

Outcomes

a) A boys & girls’ football team now competes in the Mayor’s Cup, with weekly pre training for both, led by qualified football coaches. Coaching in athletics, cricket and netball has also been introduced. Pupils had opportunities to compete in football, tennis and swimming competitions.

b) The PE Co-ordinator led a very successful Health & Fitness week, which included a company introducing circus skills and a visiting national gymnast, Hannah Martin, who worked with all classes.

c) A gymnastics teacher, a dance teacher, swimming lessons provided by trained swimming instructors and sports coaches covering multi skills, cricket, basketball, tennis ensured that all pupils had access to a high quality PE curriculum. Gymnastics is now part of the Reception Class curriculum.
